Business Problem

Rivalea, one of Australia’s leading agri-food companies, operates across a number of sites which integrate the production, processing and distribution of their products. Conserving soils, limiting chemical usage and improving water use efficiency each play a role in achieving the company’s objectives for sustainability, and their strong focus on minimising the environmental impact of their operations. Energy usage and waste reduction are issues faced by many agricultural operations, and together represented an opportunity in which Rivalea were eager to invest. 


Evo Energy’s Solution

Rivalea partnered with Evo Energy and 2G to further minimise their environmental footprint and reduce energy consumption, with the installation of a custom-built biogas generator.    

In early 2017, Rivalea came one step closer to significantly minimising their environmental footprint with the installation of a custom-built 2G Avus500plus system in a 12m container module.
The biogas fuel used by this system is captured from the natural breakdown of pig manure and turns a waste product into an energy source. 

The 2G Avus500plus unit offers combined heat and power technology that guarantees advanced energy efficiency of up to 90%.,Conventional power, on the other hand, generates only 35% of primary energy as usable electricity before the rest is released into the atmosphere.  This biogas cogeneration system means enormous cost savings as well as a massive reduction in carbon emissions for Rivalea.
The biogas cogeneration is expected to generate around 25% of the site’s power per year, resulting in considerable energy cost savings for Rivalea, and is estimated to offset over 28,000 per annum tons of CO2 equivalent emissions from grid and methane emissions avoided.
